GB3OH Profile

GB3OH is independently operated by Wullie McTaggart GM0MZB

GB3OH is located in Boness near the town of Grangemouth.

GB3OH operates on RB4 (input 443.100 MHz and output 444.700 MHz) and you will need a CTCSS tone of 94.8Hz to access it.

From time to time the repeater is connected to ECHOLINK. the node number is 37878 You can check if it is connected HERE

The antennas were originally a 3 x 5/8 co-linear used on receive and an SA640 dipole array used on transmit, but after several years of weather damage these were replaced with a set of SDH450 dipoles

The coverage prediction for GB3OH looks like this below

For mobile use when using a 6dB mobile antenna   Using a hand held portable radio

Some of the components used in the original repeater when it was commissioned in 1979 are still in use at the site today (filters & housings)

The original repeater was a Storno CQF662 which was donated to the repeater group by the SDX Support Group and aligned by the Central Scotland FM Group

A few pictures from the firmware and logic controller update from 2004

Some pictures taken from the GB3OH site, as you can see it has a great line of sight across the valley!

This is the farm at which GB3OH has been located since 1979 This is the north view from the site. the picture was taken in Jan 2000 before Kincardine power station was demolished. (Two towers in distance). In the centre of the picture is part of the B.P complex that is built on re-claimed land. A great view of the Ochil hills in this picture, which GB3 "OH" was named after (bet you didn't know that now did you ??) as the original location of the repeater was to be located at Pendritch Farm in the Ochil Hills in 1978

Some images of the new repeater that has been installed due to the Storno's becoming a little less than reliable. This was a serious upgrade including replacement of the old copper cavity filters with some new aluminium one to hopefully lessen the effects due to temp changes within the cabinet 9no air conditioning in the barn hihi )

Again the same home brew logic controller was used and aligned / calibrated using IFR / Marconi test set.

The Storno CQF has now been removed from service on a permanent basis as it is now to unstable.

It has served both the PMR community and GB3OH well over the past 30 years so it has done well, lets hope that the Tait 800's will serve the local users well on 70cms.
